By Nathan Figone. On June 20th, 2015, our group got together to clean & disinfect a used rabbit cage for a family in need. This family had just got a rabbit and didn’t have a cage or hutch to put it in and were need of it to take care of there furry friend (there rabbit). We felt very happy for this family that they could take care of there rabbit now and that it may bring joy to there life. It is important to clean and disinfect any used products you receive. If you have received a used cage, hutch, etc. and the previous owners pet had a disease, or fleas, or mites, they could be transferred to the new owner of the cage/hutch. Thus, the cage/hutch that is being giving away could then infect the new animal. This could cause the animal to become very ill and/or die. As we have all learned through 4-H, it is important to keep our animals living conditions very clean. You should remove all the droppings every day. At least once a month, clean and disinfect the cage and tray. Use a mild bleach solution. Rinse well. Since we are all members of 4-H, we are always happy to reach out and help our community. We all hope the new family of the cage enjoys it and are happy. Good luck to you, and your new rabbit. |
